Situated at an elevation of approximately 1,450 meters, the town is surrounded by dense tropical rainforests and extensive coffee plantations. Mizan Teferi is considered the heart of Ethiopian coffee production, especially due to its proximity to the Bebeka coffee plantation, the largest in the country. Historically, the town served as a significant southwestern outpost and is today a melting pot of various ethnic groups, such as the Bench and Sheko.
