Aarhus Theater (Denmark)

Weather…

Aarhus Theater is the largest provincial theater institution in Denmark and an outstanding example of Danish Art Nouveau architecture. The current building was constructed between 1898 and 1900 based on the designs of the renowned architect Hack Kampmann, replacing an older, dilapidated structure from 1816. The theater is particularly noted for its elaborate facade decorations featuring ceramics by Karl Hansen-Reistrup and its magnificent interior, which reflects the city's prosperity at the turn of the century. It houses a total of five different stages, hosting a wide spectrum of performances ranging from classical dramas to modern musicals. Since its grand opening on September 15, 1900, it has served as the cultural heart of Jutland and is now a listed building. The combination of architectural aesthetics and technical innovation made it one of the most modern theaters in Northern Europe at the time of its completion.
