Ngandajika is a significant town located in the Lomami Province in the central part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Geographically, it is situated on the Lomami Plateau, a region known for its fertile soil and favorable climate, establishing Ngandajika as one of the country's most vital agricultural centers. Historically, the town was a major site for cotton cultivation, encouraged during the colonial era by the Compagnie Cotonnière Congolaise (COTONCO). Today, the economy focuses on palm oil, maize, peanuts, and tobacco in addition to cotton. The town serves as a crucial supply hub for the nearby city of Mbuji-Mayi, the largest metropolitan area in the Kasaï region. Despite its economic importance, Ngandajika faces significant challenges due to poor transport infrastructure, which hinders the export of its agricultural bounty. Nevertheless, it remains an essential cultural and administrative center for the local Baluba population.
