The Třeboň Fishponds are a unique system of artificial water reservoirs in South Bohemia, developed continuously since the 14th century. Recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this landscape represents an outstanding achievement of Renaissance water engineering. Famous builders such as Štěpánek Netolický and Jakub Krčín reshaped the terrain by constructing dams, canals, and over 460 ponds. The largest of these is the Rožmberk pond, established in the 16th century, which currently covers nearly 490 hectares. The area is not only the center of traditional Czech carp farming but also serves as a vital sanctuary for rare waterfowl and otters.
