Odeon of Paphos (Cyprus)

Weather…

The Paphos Odeon is a significant Roman structure located within the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park. Constructed in the 2nd century AD using finely dressed limestone, it features the characteristic semi-circular shape of ancient auditoriums. Originally, the theatre consisted of 25 rows of seating, 12 of which have been meticulously restored to give visitors a sense of its historical scale. It was primarily designed for musical performances, poetic competitions, and civic assemblies. The Odeon is situated adjacent to the Paphos Agora and the Asklepieion, highlighting the area's importance as the city's cultural and social hub. The structure suffered extensive damage during powerful earthquakes in the 4th century and remained buried under debris for centuries until its systematic excavation in the 1970s. Today, it serves once again as an atmospheric venue for modern open-air concerts and theatrical productions.
