La Cava Castle is situated on the Aronas hill in Aglantzia, a suburb of Nicosia. The fortification was constructed in the late 14th century, approximately in 1385, during the reign of King James I of Lusignan. It originally functioned as a royal summer residence and a strategic observation post intended to protect the capital from raids across the central plain. During the Venetian-Ottoman war in 1570, the Venetians intentionally dismantled parts of the castle to prevent the invading Ottoman forces from utilizing it as a base during the siege of Nicosia. Today, only the prominent ruins of a single tower, sections of the enclosure walls, and rock-cut cisterns remain visible. The site has significant insights into the military and residential architecture of the Lusignan period in Cyprus.

The ruins of La Cava Castle are freely accessible as the castle is on an open hill. There are no secured entrances or opening hours; visiting is at your own risk.

As an open-air ruin, there are no fixed visiting hours; visit during daylight. The area is not lit, so a visit after dark is not recommended.

Photography is unrestricted as there is no staff on site. Be careful of slippery ground when looking for the best shot.

The ruin is about 10 km southeast of Nicosia and can be reached by car via the road to Dali. Parking is possible on the dirt track next to the ruin.
