Trilj is located in the scenic Dalmatian hinterland, at the point where the Cetina River exits the Sinj field. The town has a millennia-old history dating back to Roman times when it served as a strategic river crossing. On Gardun hill, directly above Trilj, lie the remains of the Roman military camp Tilurium, which once housed the VII Legion. Archaeological finds from this site are displayed in the Museum of the Trilj Region. The town's medieval history is represented by the Nutjak fortress, perched on a cliff overlooking the Cetina canyon, formerly used for defense against the Ottomans. Today, Trilj is a paradise for active travelers and nature lovers. The river provides well-suited conditions for fishing, canoeing, and relaxing walks along its banks. A unique natural phenomenon is the nearby Grabski mlinovi (Mills of Grab), where water from powerful springs drives ancient stone mills. Gastronomically, Trilj is one of Dalmatia's most famous spots. The town is renowned for specialties like frog legs, crayfish from the Cetina, and the traditional 'Uštipci' dough. Located at the crossroads of major regional routes, Trilj is a spirited place that combines the raw beauty of the hinterland with hospitable traditions and historical depth.
