Kaštelir is located in the western part of Istria, about seven kilometers from the coast and the city of Poreč. The village sits atop a hill and provides one of the most beautiful views in the region, stretching from the mouth of the Mirna River to the Lanterna peninsula. Kaštelir is closely linked to the neighboring village of Labinci, and together they form a center for Istrian gastronomy and rural tourism. The village's economy is traditionally based on the cultivation of olives, vines, and potatoes. Kaštelir is known for some of the best olive oils in the world, which regularly win international awards. Visitors can visit numerous wine cellars and olive mills to taste local products directly on-site. The village architecture is typically Istrian, with old stone houses and the prominent Parish Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian (sv. Kuzma i Damjan), whose bell tower dominates the townscape. In recent years, Kaštelir has developed into a popular destination for discerning travelers who wish to stay in luxury villas with pools without sacrificing authentic village life. The surroundings offer excellent opportunities for cycling and hiking on marked trails, such as the Parenzana, a former railway line. Local festivals, like the 'Gramperijada' (potato festival), celebrate rural traditions and provide insights into the Istrian way of life.
