Višnjan is located in the western part of Istria on a hill overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The town is internationally known for the Višnjan Observatory (Zvjezdarnica Višnjan), which, under the leadership of Korado Korlević, is one of the most successful in the world at discovering asteroids. The medieval center of the town has preserved its authentic character with an 18th-century loggia, the old town gate, and the parish church of Saints Quiricus and Julitta. Surrounding Višnjan is a center of Istrian agriculture, famous for excellent wine (especially Malvazija and Teran) and first-class olive oil. Every year on June 21st, the 'Astrofest' is held here, a summer solstice festival that combines science and mysticism. Visitors also enjoy the 'truffle forests' nearby and the many cycling trails leading through the red soil (Terra Rossa). Višnjan is a place where history, tradition, and cutting-edge science harmoniously meet.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
