Kampor is one of the best-preserved fishing villages on Rab island, located in its northwestern part. The village stretches along a wide bay and borders the protected Kalifront forest reserve, one of the few remaining holm oak forests in the Mediterranean. A highlight for culture enthusiasts is the Franciscan monastery of St. Euphemia at the end of the bay, which houses a valuable library and an ethnographic museum. For beach lovers, Kampor is particularly attractive because of Mel Bay. This shallow sandy beach is good for families with small children, as you can walk hundreds of meters into the sea. The area around Kampor also features numerous hiking trails through the Dundo forest, leading to hidden rocky coves on the west coast. Historically, Kampor also has a dark side: an Italian concentration camp was located here during World War II, and a memorial site marks the spot today. Culinary-wise, the village gives the best of Rab island: fresh fish, lamb, and the famous Rab cake (Rabska torta). Kampor is well-suited for vacationers seeking peace and nature but who still want to be close to the town of Rab.
