Banana plantations are often visible from roads, but access to the groves is typically only with the farmers' permission. Some farms offer guided tours for a small fee, where you can observe cultivation and harvesting.

A particularly nice viewpoint is the pass over the Mayombe mountains, from where you can overlook the banana groves terraced in the valleys. The ferry across the Kouilou River also provides an excellent view of the riverside plantations.

Local markets offer fresh cooking bananas, banana chips, and fermented banana paste (makayabu). Banana leaves are also available, used for wrapping food.
