Mbatsé is a coastal community in the north of Mohéli Island, known for its tranquil atmosphere and strategic location on the Indian Ocean. The settlement is characterized by traditional Comorian architecture, with the mosque often forming the social and religious center. Inhabitants live mainly from fishing and agriculture, as the fertile volcanic soils allow for the cultivation of coconut palms and various tropical fruits. Geographically, Mbatsé is located in a region with steep slopes that drop directly into the sea, giving the landscape a dramatic appearance. During the colonial era, the region was an important site for plantations, remnants of which are still partially visible today. The community in Mbatsé proudly preserves its cultural identity, which is a blend of African, Arabic, and French influences. In recent years, efforts have been made to improve infrastructure to ensure access to education and healthcare for the growing population.
