Temple of Heaven (China)

Weather…

The Temple of Heaven (Tiantan) is an imperial complex of religious buildings situated in southeastern Beijing, constructed between 1406 and 1420 during the reign of the Yongle Emperor. It was the sacred site where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties, known as the 'Sons of Heaven,' performed annual rites of sacrifice to pray for bountiful harvests and divine guidance. The architecture of the complex is a physical manifestation of ancient Chinese cosmology, where circular structures represent Heaven and square foundations represent the Earth. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is the complex's architectural centerpiece, a magnificent triple-gabled wooden building constructed entirely without nails. Spanning 273 hectares, the surrounding park is significantly larger than the Forbidden City, reflecting the supreme importance of the celestial rites. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998, it is celebrated as a masterpiece of architectural and landscape design that exemplifies the relationship between the human and divine realms.
