Zapallar
Zapallar is widely considered one of Chile's most exclusive beach destinations, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling city. The town is tucked away in a small, closed bay surrounded by steep hills covered in lush greenery and pine trees, creating a microclimate protected from strong coastal winds. Visitors come here for the serene atmosphere and the beautiful architecture of the large residential mansions dotting the hillside. The main attraction is the pristine white-sand beach, Playa Zapallar, great for swimming and sunbathing. A scenic coastal path connects Zapallar to the neighboring town of Cachagua, offering excellent views of the rocky shoreline and the Pacific Ocean. Seafood is a staple here, with local restaurants serving fresh catches like conger eel and surf clams paired with excellent Chilean white wines. Located about 170 kilometers northwest of Santiago, Zapallar is easily accessible by car via Route 5 North. The best time to visit is during the Southern Hemisphere summer, from December to March, when the weather is warm and well-suited for beach activities. Outside these months, the town remains a quiet, atmospheric retreat for peaceful weekend getaways.
