Ndélé is the capital of the Bamingui-Bangoran prefecture in the northern part of the Central African Republic. The town has a rich history, having served in the 19th century as the center of the Sultanate of Dar al-Kuti under the rule of Sultan Senoussi. A significant historical landmark is the 'Tata,' the Sultan's fortified palace, which is currently on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list and testifies to the former power of the sultanate. Located approximately 648 kilometers from Bangui, Ndélé is situated in a remote region of immense ecological importance due to its proximity to Bamingui-Bangoran National Park and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Manovo-Gounda St. Floris. The local economy is driven by agriculture and livestock farming, with the town serving as a vital market for surrounding rural communities. Due to its isolated northern location, infrastructure is limited, yet the town remains an administrative and cultural hub for the entire prefecture. The climate features a distinct dry season and an intense rainy season, significantly influencing agricultural cycles.
