Grandvaux Barbosa National Botanical Garden (Cape Verde)

Weather…

The Grandvaux Barbosa National Botanical Garden in São Jorge dos Órgãos is the only institution of its kind in Cape Verde. Established in 1986, it spans approximately 13 hectares in one of the most fertile mountainous regions of Santiago Island. The garden is named after the eminent botanist Grandvaux Barbosa, who dedicated his career to studying West African flora. Its primary mission is the conservation and scientific study of Cape Verde's endemic plant species, many of which are endangered by climate change and invasive species. Visitors can observe rare specimens such as the Cape Verde dragon tree and various native medicinal plants in their natural habitat. The garden also functions as an educational center for local schools and a research facility for international scientists. Its terraced layout provides spectacular views of the surrounding mountain peaks and valleys, making it a site of both scientific importance and natural beauty.
