Lobé Falls (Cameroon)

Weather…

The Lobé Falls, situated just south of Kribi, represent a rare global geographical phenomenon where a river empties directly into the Atlantic Ocean via a series of cascades. The falls span over 100 meters in width at the mouth of the Lobé River, with water dropping from a height of approximately 20 meters over volcanic rock. Historically and culturally, the site is sacred to the indigenous Batanga, Maabi, and Massoli peoples, who perform ritual purifications and healing ceremonies in its waters. Since 2006, the area has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list due to its exceptional integration of marine and riverine ecosystems. The surrounding environment is characterized by dense mangroves and equatorial flora, providing a vital habitat for diverse avian species. Despite increasing tourism, the falls remain a profound spiritual landmark where traditional priests continue to communicate with water deities.
