The Kribi marshland is an extensive wetland on the coast of southern Cameroon, characterized by a mix of mangroves, swamp forests, and lagoons. This region is located immediately south of the port city of Kribi and is fed by the estuaries of several small rivers flowing into the Atlantic. The interplay of fresh and salt water creates a highly dynamic habitat that functions as a natural filtration system for coastal waters. The marshland is a vital refuge for waterfowl and serves as a nursery for numerous marine life forms, particularly shrimp and fish. The vegetation is dominated by red mangroves and various species of water lilies that thrive in the calm lagoons. Due to industrial development, especially the construction of the Kribi deep-sea port, the area is under significant ecological pressure. These extensive coastal wetlands can usually be explored by renting small, traditional canoes (pirogues) from local fishermen at nearby river mouths. Road access only brings you to the marsh edges, where boats wait.

The dry seasons (November-March and July-August) provide calmer waters and a significantly reduced chance of heavy, view-obscuring downpours. Wildlife viewing, particularly bird watching, is generally better in drier months.
