Kardzhali Regional Museum (Bulgaria)

Weather…

The Regional History Museum in Kardzhali is housed in one of Southern Bulgaria's most striking buildings, originally designed in the 1920s as an Islamic religious school (madrasah) by the Russian architect Pomerantsev. The structure impresses with its monumental architecture featuring Moorish Revival elements and is set within a spacious garden containing over 30 species of exotic plants. The collections consist of more than 40,000 exhibits documenting the history of the Eastern Rhodopes from the Neolithic era to the present day. Particularly noteworthy are the archaeological finds from the sacred rock city of Perperikon and the sanctuary of Tatul. The museum also features a rich ethnographic department reflecting the diverse mosaic of cultures and traditions in this border region, as well as a significant collection of minerals and semi-precious stones from the Rhodope Mountains.
