Church of the Holy Apostles (Bulgaria)

Weather…

The Church of the Holy Apostles is situated on the northern shore of the Sozopol peninsula and serves as an outstanding example of medieval Bulgarian sacred architecture. Built between the 13th and 14th centuries, the church was once part of a larger monastery complex dedicated to the Apostles Peter and Paul. The structure is characterized by its distinctive masonry technique, where layers of hewn stone alternate with red brick bands, creating a decorative polychrome pattern. During the Ottoman rule, the building suffered severe damage and was partially forgotten until archaeological excavations in the early 21st century uncovered the foundations and significant relics. Today, the restored remains are a vital part of the Sozopol archaeological reserve, offering visitors a glimpse into the former spiritual grandeur of this ancient seaside town.
