Monte Verde provides a slice of Europe in the Brazilian mountains, drawing couples and nature lovers to its cozy, romantic atmosphere. Situated at over 1,500 meters in the Mantiqueira range, it features a remarkably cool climate that heavily contrasts with typical Brazilian weather. The village is surrounded by towering Araucaria trees and features excellent hiking trails leading to peaks like Pedra Redonda and Pedra Partida, offering spectacular views. The characterful main avenue is lined with alpine-style chalets, boutique shops, and artisan chocolate factories. Gastronomy focuses on winter comfort food, especially fondue, hot chocolate, and local craft beers. The peak season is during the cold winter months of June and July. It is a highly popular weekend getaway, easily accessible via a short drive from São Paulo.
