Campos do Jordao
Campos do Jordão is often called the Brazilian Switzerland due to its alpine-style architecture and unusually cold climate for the country. Located in the Mantiqueira Mountains at an altitude of 1,628 meters, it is a premium winter destination. The Capivari tourist district is filled with chocolate shops, craft breweries, and restaurants serving fondue. Nature lovers visit the Amantikir Park, which features themed gardens, and the Horto Florestal state park for hiking among araucaria trees. The city is also famous for its Winter Festival in July, which brings classical music performances to the Claudio Santoro Auditorium. The city is easily reachable by a two-hour drive from São Paulo via the modern Carvalho Pinto and Floriano Rodrigues Pinheiro highways. The peak season is during the winter months of June to August, but visiting in the spring features blooming hydrangeas and much lower prices.
