São Miguel dos Milagres is a laid-back retreat on the Costa dos Corais in northeastern Brazil. Unlike crowded tourist hubs, this fishing village has maintained its authentic, rustic charm. Endless palm-fringed beaches and crystal-clear, warm waters define the scenery. The region is part of one of South America's largest coral reefs. During low tide, the famous natural pools (Piscinas Naturais) emerge within the reef, which visitors can reach using traditional jangadas (small sailboats). This provides excellent opportunities for snorkeling and observing marine life. Another major highlight is the nearby manatee sanctuary on the Tatuamunha River. The best time to travel here is between September and March, when rainfall is minimal. Arrival is usually via the airport in Maceió, about 100 kilometers to the south. Renting a car is highly recommended to explore the hidden coves scattered along the Rota Ecológica coastal road.
