Jericoacoara
The pleasant fishing village of Jericoacoara has evolved into one of the world's premier kitesurfing destinations. The absence of paved roads and streetlights significantly contributes to its relaxed, authentic atmosphere. A major highlight is the "Duna do Pôr do Sol" (Sunset Dune), where hundreds of people gather every evening to watch the sun drop into the ocean. Nature lovers explore the famous "Pedra Furada" rock formation or unwind in the crystal-clear waters of Lagoa do Paraíso and Lagoa Azul. The over-water hammocks here have become an iconic symbol of the region. As evening falls, the main square comes alive with locals and travelers enjoying Forró music and fresh Caipirinhas. The best time to visit spans from July to December, when the winds are first-rate for watersports and the dry season ensures good beach weather. Getting there usually involves traveling from Fortaleza, with specialized 4x4 vehicles navigating the final sandy stretch, as the village is located deep within a national park.
