The property is located in the Lomerío region and encompasses diverse ecosystems such as Chiquitano dry forests and humid savannas. The goal of the project is to minimize jaguar attacks on livestock through targeted herd management and the use of guardian dogs, rather than hunting the predators. San Miguelito has become an important center for research and ecotourism, where visitors can observe jaguars, pumas, and ocelots in their natural environment. Best season
The dry season from May to October has the best chances to see jaguars and other wildlife, as vegetation is less dense. In the rainy season trails become muddy and animals retreat to thicker forests.
Best time of day
Jaguars are crepuscular - schedule drives at dawn and dusk. The hot midday hours are usually unproductive for wildlife viewing as animals rest in the shade.
Etiquette
Stay inside the vehicle during safaris and avoid loud noises to prevent spooking animals. Feeding wildlife is strictly forbidden, and never leave the vehicle without the guide's instruction.
What to bring
Binoculars with at least 10x magnification and a camera with a telephoto lens are essential for spotting jaguars. Light-colored clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended, along with insect repellent.
Getting there
San Miguelito Jaguar Ranch is in the Bolivian lowlands, about 200 km east of Santa Cruz. It is accessible only with a 4x4 vehicle or on a guided tour; the drive takes several hours.
What to expect
Jaguars are extremely shy and rare - even on multi-day stays, a sighting is not guaranteed. Enjoy the ranch's entire wildlife, including deer, peccaries, and many bird species.
