The National Martyrs' Memorial, known as Jatiya Smriti Soudho, is the national monument of Bangladesh, honoring the victims of the 1971 Liberation War. Located in Savar, about 35 kilometers from Dhaka, it was inaugurated in 1982. The structure was designed by architect Syed Mainul Hossain and reaches a height of approximately 45 meters (150 feet). The architecture is highly symbolic, consisting of seven pairs of triangular walls arranged at different angles. Each pair of walls represents a significant stage in the history of Bangladesh that eventually led to its independence. The entire complex covers 84 acres and includes artificial lakes, extensive gardens, and mass graves. The monumental character of the structure creates an atmosphere of respect and remembrance for the visitors. Every year on December 16th, Victory Day, thousands of people gather here to pay tribute to the heroes of the nation. It stands as a powerful symbol of national pride and the struggle for freedom.
