Lalbagh Fort (Bangladesh)

Weather…

Lalbagh Fort is an unfinished 17th-century Mughal fortress complex situated along the Buriganga River in the old part of Dhaka. Construction began in 1678 under Prince Muhammad Azam, the son of Emperor Aurangzeb, but was never fully completed after his recall. The site comprises three main structures: the Lalbagh Mosque, the Tomb of Pari Bibi, and the Diwan-i-Aam. The mausoleum of Pari Bibi is particularly significant, featuring white marble and black basalt sourced from India. A sophisticated water system with fountains and channels runs through the fort's gardens, a hallmark of Mughal landscape design. Although the fort was never finished as a defensive structure, it remains one of the most important historical monuments in Bangladesh. Today, it serves as a museum documenting the Mughal rule in the region. It stands as a symbol of the magnificent past of Dhaka and its architectural heritage.
