Sangachal Terminal (Azerbaijan)

Weather…

The Sangachal Terminal is one of the world's largest integrated oil and gas processing facilities, located approximately 45 kilometers south of Baku on the Caspian Sea coast. It serves as the primary strategic hub for exporting hydrocarbons from Azerbaijan's offshore fields, specifically the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz deposits. The complex covers an expansive area of about 550 hectares and receives crude oil and natural gas via an extensive network of subsea pipelines from offshore platforms. Major export routes originate at this site, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline for crude oil and the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) for natural gas. The terminal's processing capacity exceeds 1.2 million barrels of oil per day and handles massive volumes of gas for international distribution. Since its commissioning in 1996, the facility has undergone continuous expansion and modernization to accommodate increasing production levels. It currently plays a pivotal role in European energy security as the cornerstone of the Southern Gas Corridor.
