Republic Square (Armenia)

Weather…

Republic Square is the central town square in Yerevan and the architectural heart of the Armenian capital. It was originally designed by Alexander Tamanian in 1924 as part of the master plan for the city, though most of the surrounding buildings were completed in the 1950s. The square consists of two sections: an oval roundabout and a trapezoid-shaped area containing a synchronized fountain display. It is enclosed by five major buildings constructed of pink and white volcanic tufa stone, which give the city its unique 'Pink City' nickname. These structures include the Government House, the National History Museum and Gallery, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A major highlight is the 'Singing Fountains,' which perform elaborate light and music shows every evening from spring to autumn. The architectural style blends neoclassical proportions with intricate traditional Armenian carvings. As the city's primary public space, it serves as the venue for national celebrations, parades, and significant political gatherings.
