Biocom Sugar and Ethanol Plant (Angola)

Weather…

The Biocom plant (Companhia de Bioenergia de Angola), located in Cacuso, Malanje Province, is Angola's first integrated industrial complex for the production of sugar, ethanol, and electricity from sugarcane. Officially inaugurated in 2014, the project is a landmark in the nation's efforts to diversify its economy away from oil dependency. The facility processes sugarcane grown on tens of thousands of hectares of surrounding plantations, utilizing advanced industrial technology to ensure high efficiency. Biocom aims to significantly reduce Angola's reliance on sugar imports by meeting a large portion of domestic demand. In addition to food production, the plant generates millions of liters of ethanol for industrial use and produces renewable electricity through biomass cogeneration, which is fed into the national power grid. As a joint venture involving the state oil company Sonangol and private investors, Biocom serves as a major driver for rural development and employment in the Malanje region.
