Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós (Andorra)

Weather…

The Church of Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós is a gem of Romanesque architecture, perched on a strategic rocky outcrop above the village of Anyós in the parish of La Massana. This small building was constructed in the 12th century and gives an impressive panoramic view over the Valira valley due to its exposed position. Despite its modest dimensions of only about 5 by 11 meters, the church holds great historical significance for the principality. Over the centuries, several structural changes were made, most notably in the 16th century when the nave was extended and its current orientation was fixed. The interior originally featured valuable 12th-century murals, which are now kept in private collections and museums, while detailed reproductions are displayed on-site. The church is dedicated to Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travelers, highlighting its importance along Andorra's ancient trade routes. Every year on July 10th, a traditional festival is held here during which vehicles are blessed.
