Getting there
The national park is located about a two-hour drive from Hanoi, making it easily accessible by private car, taxi, or local buses that connect to the mountain base.
Best season
Summer is incredibly popular for escaping the city heat, but the cooler autumn months provide much better visibility and more comfortable conditions for long jungle treks.
Terrain & paths
The protected area encompasses steep mountain ridges, dense tropical forests, and rushing waterfalls. Trails range from paved paths near town to extremely rugged, muddy ascents.
What to bring
Sturdy hiking boots with excellent grip are absolutely essential due to slippery conditions. Always pack insect repellent against leeches, a lightweight rain jacket, and basic first aid.
Parking
Parking is readily available in Tam Dao town, which serves as the primary base for most visitors. Many local hotels and guesthouses also offer secure parking for their patrons.
Safety
The dense forest trails can become extremely disorienting and dangerously slippery after heavy rainfall. It is strongly advised to hire a local guide for venturing deep into the jungle.

While a leisurely walk around the town and nearby waterfalls can take a few hours, dedicated hikers often spend one or two full days exploring the extensive network of mountain trails.
