Dhayah Fort (United Arab Emirates)

Weather…

Dhayah Fort is a historic hilltop fortress in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and is recognized as the only remaining hill fort in the United Arab Emirates. The current 19th-century structure was built on the ruins of much older fortifications, strategically positioned atop a steep limestone plateau. The fort played a pivotal role in regional history, particularly during the British military campaign of 1819, when it served as the final stronghold for local tribes resisting the attacking forces. After intense bombardment, the defenders eventually surrendered, leading to the General Maritime Treaty of 1820. The fortress consists of two small mud-brick buildings surrounded by an outer wall and provides a commanding panoramic view of the surrounding date palm oases, the Hajar Mountains, and the Persian Gulf. To reach the summit, visitors must climb approximately 239 zigzag steps, making it a popular destination for both hikers and history enthusiasts.
