The Solotvyno Salt Lakes, often referred to as "Солене озеро" locally, form a unique natural reserve situated in the Zakarpattia Oblast of western Ukraine, right on the border with Romania. These lakes were formed over the past century as a result of land subsidence over abandoned historic salt mine shafts, most notably the famous Kunigunda mine. Today, they are one of the region's most popular natural therapeutic destinations.

The defining feature of these lakes is their exceptionally high salinity, which often reaches concentrations comparable to the Dead Sea. This dense, mineral-rich water allows visitors to float effortlessly on the surface, offering a deeply relaxing experience. The mineral-rich mud found along the shores and at the bottom of the lakes is also highly sought after for its reputed therapeutic properties, traditionally used to alleviate various skin and joint conditions.

Visitors to the Solotvyno nature reserve can enjoy bathing in the warm, salty waters during the summer months, while also taking in the surrounding views of the Carpathian foothills. The area is dotted with various sanatoriums and recreational facilities, making it an important hub for health tourism. Beyond the lakes, the unique geological history of the salt mines offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's long industrial past.
