Victoria Nile (Uganda)

Weather…

The Victoria Nile is a major river in East Africa, flowing out of the northeastern shore of Lake Victoria in Uganda. It travels for approximately 500 kilometers north and west, passing through Lake Kyoga before emptying into Lake Albert. This stretch of the river is famous for its impressive waterfalls and rapids, including the formerly spectacular Bujagali Falls (now submerged) and the Karuma Falls. The most celebrated, however, are the Murchison Falls, where the Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge only 7 meters wide and plunges 43 meters. This natural spectacle is the centerpiece of Murchison Falls National Park. The Victoria Nile is critically important to Uganda's economy, particularly for hydroelectric power generation. Several dams, such as the Owen Falls Dam (Nalubaale) and the Bujagali Dam, harness its power to generate electricity. The river is also a vital habitat for a wide array of wildlife, including crocodiles, hippos, and numerous bird species.
