Ayder
Ayder is a renowned 'yayla' (mountain plateau) in Rize province, positioned in a steep valley of the Kaçkar range. It is famous for its traditional wooden cottages, rejuvenating thermal baths, and the striking Gelin Tülü Waterfall. The area is exceptionally lush and green throughout the year, providing a cool retreat from summer heat. Visitors come to breathe the crisp mountain air, go hiking, and immerse themselves in the warm hospitality of the local Black Sea people. The regional gastronomy is a highlight, particularly the high-quality Ayder honey and the cheesy 'Mıhlama.' Reaching Ayder involves a scenic drive through Çamlıhemşin along winding roads flanked by dense forests. June to September is the best period for hiking, though autumn has spectacular foliage. Ayder frequently serves as a base camp for expeditions further into the Kaçkar Mountains. Despite its growing fame, it remains a cultural hub where traditional 'Horon' dances and folk music are still an integral part of daily life.
