Uzungöl
Uzungöl, meaning 'Long Lake,' is one of Turkey's most iconic postcard destinations. The lake was formed by a landslide that dammed the Haldizen stream valley. Its most famous landmark is the mosque with twin white minarets standing right at the water's edge. Visitors are drawn by the crisp mountain air, the scenic walking paths around the lake, and the panoramic views from the surrounding slopes. The valley is frequently blanketed in mystical mist, adding a layer of mystery and beauty to the landscape. The area features characterful wooden architecture typical of the Black Sea region, with many cozy hotels and restaurants. Culinary specialties include fresh trout and local cornmeal dishes. Reaching Uzungöl from Trabzon takes about 90 minutes via well-paved roads. While summer is peak tourist season, visiting in late spring or early autumn is recommended for those seeking a more tranquil experience. Beyond sightseeing, the village provides paragliding and jeep safaris to the higher altitude 'yaylas' nearby.
