Maracas Bay
Maracas Bay is Trinidad's most celebrated beach, situated on the island's northern coast approximately 45 minutes by car from Port of Spain. The bay is enclosed by the steep, rainforest-clad peaks of the Northern Range, providing a dramatic and easy on the eye backdrop. The beach is renowned for its fine white sand, consistent surf, and the iconic coconut palms that fringe the shoreline. Maracas Bay is also the culinary headquarters for 'Bake and Shark,' a beloved local delicacy consisting of fried shark in flatbread, sold by numerous vendors along the beach. The journey to the bay via the Maracas Lookout gives memorable panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea before reaching the coast. The facility includes well-maintained amenities such as changing rooms and showers, making it a favorite destination for both locals and international visitors. Despite its popularity, the bay retains its natural allure due to strictly managed commercial development. It remains a primary recreational hub and a symbol of the laid-back island lifestyle.
