Haʻavakatolo is a tranquil village situated in the Hihifo district on Tongatapu island, located immediately south of Kolovai. The settlement is part of a string of villages along the main road that opens up the western side of the island. Haʻavakatolo holds deep cultural connections to the Tongan nobility and plays a role in regional traditional gatherings. The local economy is based almost entirely on agriculture and subsistence fishing. The fertile volcanic soil allows for the productive cultivation of cassava, sweet potatoes, and coconut palms. Despite its small size, the village features a well-organized community structure with several church buildings serving as social centers. In recent years, the village has gained significance for local tourism due to its proximity to the surf beaches on the west coast. The village architecture is characterized by a mix of traditional fale elements and modern stone houses.
