Strömsholm Palace (Sweden)

Weather…

Strömsholm Palace, located near Västerås, was originally constructed as a fortress in the 1550s under King Gustav Vasa. Its current Baroque appearance results from an extensive reconstruction between 1669 and 1674, commissioned by Queen Dowager Hedvig Eleonora and designed by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. For centuries, the palace served as a residence for Swedish queens and was famous for its royal cavalry school, which operated on the grounds from 1868 to 1968. Much of the 18th-century interior remains intact, showcasing exceptional examples of the Gustavian style. Today, the palace is state-managed and houses significant collections of Swedish art and historical furniture, while the surrounding estate continues to be a prominent center for equestrian sports in Sweden.
