Monfragüe National Park (Spain)

Weather…

Monfragüe National Park in the Extremadura region is a globally recognized sanctuary for birdwatching and protects one of the most important continuous areas of Mediterranean forest. The park is dramatically intersected by the Tagus and Tiétar rivers, which have carved deep gorges into the quartzite rocks. The famous Salto del Gitano cliff, in particular, provides a spectacular backdrop and a premier vantage point for admiring the rich avifauna. The world's largest colony of the majestic black vulture nests here, alongside numerous griffon vultures, Spanish imperial eagles, and black storks. The rugged landscape, consisting of dense cork oak forests, cistus scrub, and steep cliffs, also provides a protected habitat for rare mammals such as the Iberian lynx and the Eurasian otter.
