Alcázar of Segovia (Spain)

Weather…

The Alcázar of Segovia is one of Spain's most distinctive medieval fortresses, rising from a rocky crag at the confluence of the Eresma and Clamores rivers. Originally a Roman fort, the current structure was primarily built between the 12th and 16th centuries, serving as a favored residence for the monarchs of Castile. The castle is famous for its unique ship-bow shape and its slate-roofed turrets, which reportedly inspired Disney's Cinderella Castle. Over the centuries, its role evolved from a royal palace to a state prison and eventually to the Royal Artillery School, founded by King Charles III in 1764. A massive fire in 1862 destroyed much of the interior, leading to an extensive and faithful restoration that preserved its Mudéjar and Gothic influences. Today, it remains a premier historical site, housing the General Military Archive and attracting thousands of tourists to its majestic halls and armory.
