Abudwak, also known as Cabuudwaaq, is a spirited town in the Galguduud region of central Somalia. Situated very close to the border with Ethiopia, it serves as a crucial transit hub for cross-border trade and transportation. The town is the economic heart of northern Galguduud and hosts one of the largest livestock markets in the region, where animals are traded for export as far as the Arabian Peninsula. Abudwak is renowned for its resilient population and an active diaspora that has significantly contributed to urban development, including the funding of its own airport and modern medical facilities. The surrounding geography is characterized by vast semi-deserts, which are well-suited for rearing camels and goats. As a cultural center for the region, Abudwak plays an important role in local poetry and traditional Somali arts, while its modern educational institutions attract youth from across the entire central Somalia region.
