Masjid Hajjah Fatimah (Singapore)

Weather…

Masjid Hajjah Fatimah is one of Singapore's most significant historic mosques, located along Beach Road in the Kampong Glam district. Completed in 1846, it is unique for being commissioned by a woman, the Malay merchant Hajjah Fatimah, on the site of her former home. The mosque's architecture is a remarkable fusion of European, Malay, and Saracenic styles, reflecting the diverse cultural influences of the era. Its most famous feature is the minaret, which was designed to resemble a European church spire and possesses a noticeable lean of about six degrees due to the sandy soil, earning it the nickname 'Leaning Tower of Singapore.' The grounds house the main prayer hall as well as a private burial plot for Hajjah Fatimah, her daughter, and her son-in-law. The mosque has survived several fires and undergone numerous restorations to maintain its unique structural character. It was gazetted as a National Monument on June 28, 1973, and remains a vital center for the local Muslim community.
