Merlion Park (Singapore)

Weather…

Merlion Park is one of Singapore’s most iconic public landmarks, home to the Merlion statue, the official mascot of the city-state. The mythical creature, with a lion's head and a fish's body, represents Singapore's origins as a fishing village (Temasek) and its original name, Singapura (Lion City). Originally inaugurated in 1972 at the mouth of the Singapore River, the park was relocated in 2002 to its current site at One Fullerton to accommodate the Esplanade Bridge construction and provide better views of Marina Bay. The main statue stands 8.6 meters tall, weighs approximately 70 tonnes, and continuously spouts water into the bay. It was designed by Alec Fraser-Brunner and crafted by local sculptor Lim Nang Seng. A smaller 2-meter tall statue, known as the 'Merlion cub', is also located in the park. Merlion Park provides dramatic panoramic views of the Marina Bay Sands resort and the Esplanade theaters, attracting millions of international visitors every year.
