Kusu Island (Singapore)

Weather…

Kusu Island, also known as Tortoise Island, is situated approximately 5.6 kilometers south of Singapore's main island and covers an area of about 8.5 hectares. The island's name is derived from a local legend where a giant tortoise transformed itself into an island to save shipwrecked sailors. It is a site of significant religious importance, featuring the Da Bo Gong Temple built in 1923 and three Malay shrines, or kramats, located atop a hill. Every year during the ninth lunar month, thousands of pilgrims visit the island for the annual Kusu Pilgrimage to pray for health and prosperity. Geographically, the island was significantly expanded through land reclamation in the 1970s, merging two small reefs into the current landmass. The island serves as a popular destination for nature lovers, featuring lagoons for swimming, tortoise sanctuaries, and walking trails that provide views of the Singapore mainland skyline.
