Frégate Island is the easternmost of the granitic Inner Islands of the Seychelles, covering an area of approximately 2.19 square kilometers. It was named by explorer Lazare Picault in 1744 after the frigatebirds found nesting on the island. The terrain is characterized by dramatic granitic formations, with the highest point being Mount Signal at 125 meters above sea level. Historically, the island served as a pirate hideout and later a plantation, but today it is a private luxury resort focused on ecological restoration. It is world-renowned for its conservation programs, particularly for saving the Seychelles Magpie Robin from the brink of extinction. The island is also home to over 3,500 Aldabra giant tortoises and several endemic tree species like the Wright's Gardenia.
