Saly
Saly, officially called Saly Portudal, is the tourism flagship of Senegal, located about 80 km south of Dakar on the photogenic Petite Côte. The settlement has evolved from a small Portuguese trading post into the most popular seaside resort in West Africa. Visitors primarily appreciate Saly for its extensive, palm-lined sandy beaches and year-round warm climate. The first-class tourist infrastructure includes luxury hotels, golf courses, and a wide range of water sports. In addition to beach life, Saly provides a variety of activities for every taste. The nearby Bandia Reserve allows for exciting safaris where you can observe rhinos, giraffes, and zebras in the wild. For adventurers, there are deep-sea fishing trips or quad tours through the surrounding baobab forests. In the evenings, the center of Saly comes alive with numerous restaurants, bars, and boutiques where you can purchase famous Senegalese handicrafts. The local gastronomy is an excellent blend of local Teranga cuisine and international, often French-influenced culinary arts. Access is easy via the Dakar-Blaise Diagne Airport, followed by an approximately one-hour drive. The best time to visit is from November to June, when sunshine is guaranteed and a pleasant breeze blows from the Atlantic. Saly is the well-suited place for travelers who want to combine relaxation by the sea with African nature experiences.
