Sagone Tai is a coastal community in the Salega district on the southwest coast of Savai'i island. The village is situated in a geographically distinctive zone where flat coastal stretches meet volcanic uplands. Historically, Sagone was a key location for the exchange of goods between coastal inhabitants and highland settlements. The village architecture is characterized by classic Samoan fales, often arranged in large family compounds. In Sagone Tai, agriculture plays a central role, with taro and bananas being the primary crops grown for subsistence and local market sale. The community is known for its strong cohesion and active participation in church activities, which dictate much of the social life. During the New Zealand administration in the mid-20th century, the region benefited from improved infrastructure projects that eased access to the rest of the island. Sagone also provides access to pristine coral reefs known for their rich marine biodiversity.
