Bănești is a strategically located commune in Prahova County, about 30 kilometers northwest of Ploiești and adjacent to the city of Câmpina. The town's history is indelibly marked by the figure of Aurel Vlaicu, a pioneer of Romanian aviation, who tragically crashed here in 1913 while attempting to fly across the Carpathian Mountains. A significant monument stands at the crash site to honor his contribution to aeronautics, serving as an important historical landmark. Geographically, the commune sits at the confluence of the Prahova and Doftana rivers, providing fertile land for agriculture and diverse flora. Historically, the area was also involved in the regional oil extraction industry, a hallmark of the Prahova Valley. In recent years, Bănești has emerged as a growing logistical and industrial hub, thanks to its excellent connectivity via the DN1 national road. The community also preserves religious heritage, such as old wooden churches that reflect traditional regional architecture.
